Der FC Lugano (Football Club Lugano) ist ein Schweizer Fussballclub aus Lugano. Er ist der Nachfolgeverein des FC Lugano, der 2002 Konkurs anmelden musste. Am 1. Juli 2003 erfolgte die Fusion der Reste des insolventen FC Lugano mit dem ebenfalls aus dem Tessin stammenden Verein FC Malcantone Agno zur AC Lugano. Am 24. Juni 2008 wurde der Vereinsname rechtzeitig zum 100-jährigen Bestehen von AC Lugano wieder in FC Lugano geändert. Der Spitzname des Vereins ist "Bianco-neri".
Lugano (lombardisch Lügàn, deutsch veraltet Lauis) ist eine Stadt des Schweizer Kantons Tessin. Die im Sottoceneri gelegene Stadt ist zwar die grösste des Kantons, nicht jedoch die Hauptstadt (Bellinzona). Lugano hat etwa 63.000 Einwohner. Die Stadt hat sich in den letzten zwanzig Jahren sehr stark entwickelt und ist heute nach Zürich und Genf der drittgrösste Finanzplatz der Schweiz.

Alljährlich treffen die Mannschaften des AC Luganos und des Kantonsrivalen AC Bellinzona aufeinander. Diesen Treffen wird seit eh und je mit großer Vorfreude in beiden Städten entgegengefiebert. Es ist aber hinzuzufügen, dass diese Aufeinandertreffen immer unter fairsten Bedingungen stattfinden. Es gibt weder auf dem Spielfeld noch am Rande der Partien Probleme oder gar Ausschreitungen. Beide Vereine fiebern mit größtem Respekt dem jeweiligen nationalen Saisonhöhepunkt der beiden Städte entgegen, auch wenn der Klassenkamerad aus Bellinzona meist immer etwas besser in der Tabelle steht als die Jungs aus Lugano. Aber wer weiß wie lange noch...
