Viking Stavanger (offiziell: Viking Fotballklubb) ist ein Fußballverein aus Stavanger, Norwegen. Der Klub wurde am 10. August 1899 gegründet.
Stavanger ist mit 134.037 Einwohnern die viertgrößte Stadt Norwegens. Sie liegt in Nord-Jæren in der Fylke (Provinz) Rogaland. Stavanger liegt auf dem Festland und den bebauten Inseln Hundvåg, Buøy, Austre Åmøy, Langøy, Bjørnøy, Roaldsøy, Ormøy, Steinsøy, Engøy, Sølyst, Grasholmen, Vassøy, Lindøy, Hellesøy, Tunsøy und Kalvøy. Die Stadt wurde 1125 mit dem Beginn des Baus des Doms gegründet; der Dom ist heute die älteste Kathedrale Norwegens. 1425 erhielt Stavanger des Marktrecht. 1684 brach ein dermaßen verheerende Zerstörungen anrichtendes Feuer aus, dass beschlossen wurde, die Stadt komplett aufzugeben. So verlegten 1671 wichtige Stadtrepräsentanten ihren Sitz nach Kristiansand, 1682 folgte der Bischofssitz. Im Jahre 1686 ging sie auch des Marktrechtes verlustig, erlangte es jedoch 1690 nach der Neuerrichtung durch die Bevölkerung wieder. Erst ab dem 18. Jahrhundert trat ein für beständiges Wachstum der Stadt sorgender wirtschaftlicher Aufschwung ein. Stavanger blühte zuerst durch den Fischfang (Hering), später die Schifffahrt, schließlich die Konservenindustrie auf. 1969 begann ein neuer Boom, als erstmals Öl in der Nordsee entdeckt wurde. Nach vielen Diskussionen wurde Stavanger zum Onshore-Zentrum der norwegischen Ölindustrie und es folgte eine Phase des hektischen Wachstums.
