Vorwort
Der FC Vitoria Setubal gehört zu einem der Gründungsmitglieder der portugiesischen SuperLiga , in der man sich seit Anbeginn an in der Riege der Spitzenteams festsetzen konnte . Portugal selber ist dagegen kein Gründungsmitglied des BMO-Universums. Erst seit Saison 8 darf sich Portugal als offizieller Verband des BMO ansehen.
Die Historie des FC Vitoria Setubal
Saison 8
Superliga
Gleich in der 1. Saison sollte der FC Vitoria Setubal seinen größten und bis dato einzigen Erfolg feiern können. Unter dem Manager AoE2, der zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt noch für sehr viel Gesprächsstoff sorgen sollte, konnte der FC Vitoria Setubal die Meisterschale überaus souverän, mit 12 Punkten Vorsprung auf den Tabellenzweiten, den FC Porto, nach Setubal holen.
Taca de Portugal
Auch im nationalen Pokal sollte der FC Vitoria Setubal in dieser Saison eine tragende Rolle spielen. Nach Siegen über die Amateure des FC Belenenses Lissabon, den FC Rio Ave, den Amateuren von Benfica Lissabon und im Halbfinale schlussendlich über Vitoria Guimaraes traf man im Finale auf Maritimo Funchal. Leider verlor man dieses mit 2:3 und verpasste somit ganz knapp das Double, gleich in der ersten Saison.
Europacup
Durch den gerade erst aufgenommenen Spielbetrieb konnte sich noch kein portugiesischer Verein für internationale Aufgaben qualifizieren.
Saison 9
Superliga
Unter Manager AoE2 setzte man sich das Ziel, die errungene Meisterschaft aus der Vorsaison zu verteidigen. Doch trotz einer wiederum sehr starken Runde musste man sich letztendlich einem noch stärkeren Team geschlagen geben. Der FC Porto sollte diese Saison in einer eigenen Liga spielen und gewann die Meisterschaft, ähnlich souverän, wie der FC Vitoria Setubal in der Vorsaison, mit 7 Punkten Vorsprung auf den Vorjahresmeister.
Taca de Portugal
Wiederum sollte hier Maritimo Funchal Endstation für Setubal sein. Gleich in der 1. Runde gab es die Neuauflage des Finals aus der Vorsaison. Mit 3:4 musste man sich Maritimo Funchal geschlagen geben, die dann selber im Viertelfinale am späteren Sieger, Benfica Lissabon, scheiterten.
Europaliga
Bei der ersten und bis heute einzigen Teilnahme Setubals an der Königsklasse war es von vornerein klar, dass ein Weiterkommen über die Gruppenphase hinaus sehr schwer sein würde. Die Gruppenauslosung machte diese Aufgabe dann auch nicht leichter. Der FC Vitoria Setubal sollte es mit dem RC Lens, Fenerbahce Istanbul, Borussia Dortmund, dem FC Lugano und mit dem FC Liverpool zu tun bekommen. Mit letztlich 9 Punkten, die immerhin u.a. aus zwei Heimsiegen über den späteren Halbfinalisten RC Lens und dem FC Liverpool resultierten, reichte es am Ende aber leider nur zu Platz 6 in dieser Gruppe. Nichts desto trotz konnte Setubal zeigen, dass man auch die ganz Großen an guten Tagen ärgern kann.
Saison 10
Superliga
Die Saison 10 stand unter keinem guten Stern für Portugal. Überschattet von dem größten Skandal des BMO geriet der Meisterschaftsbetrieb zur absoluten Nebensache. Die damaligen Manager des FC Porto, von Maritimo Funchal und des FC Vitoria Setubal manipulierten bewusst Ihre eigenen Spiele gegeneinander um es dem Titelaspiranten Nummer 1 Benfica Lissabon nicht möglich zu machen die Meisterschaft zu erringen. Diese Manipulationen sind erst spät in der Saison auffällig geworden, umso erstaunlicher ist es, dass Benfica Lissabon nichts desto trotz sich durchsetzen und die Meisterschaft einfahren konnte. Die drei damaligen Manager Leroin (FC Porto), AoE2 (FC Vitoria Setubal) und Presidente (Maritimo Funchal) wurden vom Weltverband daraufhin teilweise lebenslang, teilweise temporär von Ihren Aufgaben entbunden und gesperrt. Heute ist von diesen dreien nur noch Presidente beim BMO aktiv und sich zu 100% rehabilitiert hat.
