Die First League ist die höchste Spielklasse im schottischen Fußball. Zum ersten mal war die First League in Saison 2 beim BMO vertreten. Nach drei Spielzeiten wurde sie vorerst auf Eis gelegt, doch seit Saison 8 ist die First League fester Bestandteil des BMO.

Aufgrund der aktuellen Position Schottlands in der 3-Jahreswertung der Länder qualifiziert sich der Meister für die BMO-Europa-Liga; die Mannschaften auf den Plätzen 2-4 nehmen am BMO-Europa-Cup teil. Die letzten drei Mannschaften steigen in die Second League ab. Zur Saison 40 wurde die Liga im Zuge der Reform des schottischen Verbandes von 18 auf 12 Teams verkleinert.
